Explained

What is an online torrent player?

An online torrent player is a web-based video player that can open and play video files from torrents directly in your browser. Unlike desktop media players such as VLC or MPC, there is nothing to install — the player runs entirely in the browser.

Webtor.io transcodes video on the server in real time using FFmpeg, converting formats like MKV, AVI, MP4, WEBM, MOV, and WMV into browser-compatible HLS streams. This means virtually any video format plays smoothly without codec packs or plugins.

Benefits

Why use an online torrent player?

Desktop players require downloading the whole file first and installing codec packs. Webtor's online torrent player handles everything in the cloud so you can focus on watching.

Plays MKV, AVI, MP4, WEBM, MOV, WMV
Built-in subtitle support (SRT, ASS, VTT)
Seek anywhere in the video instantly
No codec packs, plugins, or installs
Safety

Is the online torrent player safe to use?

The Webtor torrent player runs in your browser and never exposes your device to the torrent swarm. All torrent connections are handled server-side, and video is delivered to you over encrypted HTTPS. No VPN is required, and no data is stored on your device beyond the browser cache.

FAQ

Common questions

Quick answers to the things people ask most.

Is Webtor.io free to use?

Yes, Webtor.io is completely free for basic use. You can stream and download torrents without creating an account. Optional paid plans remove ads, increase bandwidth, and unlock Vault cloud storage.

Do I need a VPN to use Webtor.io? Will my ISP see what I download?

No VPN required. All traffic between you and Webtor.io travels over HTTPS. Your IP address is never exposed to the BitTorrent network because Webtor.io servers handle all peer communication. For your ISP, using Webtor.io looks no different from visiting any other website.

Can I use Webtor.io on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Webtor.io works in any modern mobile browser on iOS and Android. You can stream video, listen to audio, and download torrents without installing any additional apps.

What video and audio formats does Webtor.io support?

Webtor.io supports instant streaming for most popular formats. Video: AVI, MKV, MP4, WEBM, M4V, TS, VOB. Audio: MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, M4A. Files that require transcoding may take a moment longer to start playing.

Is Webtor.io an open-source project?

Yes, 100%. All components of Webtor.io are distributed under the MIT license. You can visit the GitHub repository to view the source code and contribute.

Can I watch my library on a smart TV?

Yes! With the Stremio integration you can stream your personal library on any smart TV or device running Stremio. Just install the addon using the link from your profile.

How do I open a .torrent file in my browser?

Drag your .torrent file into the upload area at the top of this page, or paste a magnet link into the search field. Webtor opens it instantly — pick the video or audio file you want and stream it, or grab a direct download link. There's no torrent client to install and nothing to set up.

How do I download files from a magnet link without a torrent client?

Paste the magnet link into the search field at the top of this page. Webtor acts as an online magnet link downloader: it fetches the torrent and gives you a direct HTTP download link for each file, plus a built-in player to stream video and audio. Your browser never connects to the BitTorrent network — Webtor servers handle that.

What is Discover and how do the AI recommendations work?

Discover is a recommendations page powered by AI. Open it from the main navigation, type what you want to watch (or tap one of the suggested chips), and Webtor returns a personalized list of films — each with a short reason explaining why it fits your taste and what you've watched before. Click any card to start streaming through your usual addons.

Is AI Discover free? How many requests do I get?

Yes — every account gets 2 free AI request(s) per day. Supporters of the project get 15 requests per day. Suggestion chips and the rest of the Discover catalog are unlimited; only the natural-language search counts against the daily quota.

What AI model powers the recommendations? Is my data safe?

Recommendations are generated by Anthropic's Claude — a fast model for the free tier and a more capable one for supporters. We send the model only your title/year/rating history. No email, IP address, or any other personal data is shared. The response is used purely to suggest films you can stream through your usual addons.

Do download links or streams expire?

Yes, for security reasons direct download links and streaming sessions are temporary and may expire after a short time. You can always refresh or regenerate them from your library interface.

How can I remove ads on Webtor.io?

Support the project and you'll get an ad-free experience, faster loading speeds, and a heart icon in the interface.

Why do some downloaded ZIP archives show a CRC error?

ZIP archives are generated on-the-fly and don't include full checksum data. Some extraction tools may show a warning even when the file is fully intact. We recommend using 7-Zip for best compatibility.

Why is my download or streaming speed slow on Webtor.io?

Speeds may vary due to the number of seeders, file format (some require real-time transcoding), your internet connection, current server load, and your account type. Premium users get higher bandwidth.

Note: bandwidth is measured in Mbps (megabits per second), while file sizes are shown in MB (megabytes). 1 MB = 8 Mb, so a 50 Mbps connection gives roughly 6.25 MB/s download speed. Supporting the project helps unlock better speed and reliability.
